Description of activity
The Windsor & Maidenhead Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) is a multi-agency partnership who agree how local child protection services are co-ordinated and monitored in the area. The Children Act 2004 says that every Local Authority has to have an LSCB partnership.
Who is part of the LSCB?
The LSCB has membership from a range of local agencies involved in safeguarding children, which includes:
Council Services including Children’s services, Youth offending, Community and Youth, Drug Services and Adult Social Care, Housing
Thames Valley Police
Thames Valley Probation
Child and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS)
The voluntary sector
Schools and Further Education establishments
Lay Members (non professional observers)
Pan Berkshire Legal advisory service
What does the LSCB do?
Develops policies and procedures (child protection, training, employment, investigating allegations against staff and volunteers, privately fostered children and a co-ordinated response to unexpected child deaths),
Monitors the effectiveness of safeguarding work by carrying out audits, participating in the planning of services to children and communicating and promoting safeguarding.
What do we mean by 'safeguarding'?
protecting children from maltreatment;
preventing impairment of children’s health or development;
ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
children have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully
