Get Involved

There are a number of ways families can get actively involved in shaping the individual services they receive and in the development of local services for children and young and people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The Royal Borough's Children and Young People Disability Service (CYPDS) engages with families in the following ways:

  • Young people and parents are involved in developing and reviewing their Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan and other plans that support them including Social Care Plans.
  • Families' views feed into the development and review of the SEND 'Local Offer' website.
  • Regular evaluations are carried out with children, young people and families on Short Breaks services including the Flying High Playscheme, Buddy Group Youth Club and formal consultation with children and families on our Short Breaks Statement.
  • Young people and families are regularly involved in interviews for key posts within the Children and Young People Disability Service.
  • The CYPDS Parents and Carers Consultation Group is an 'e-group' which enables parents and carers to help us develop different aspects of our service by giving their feedback via email.

In addition, there are also other services which support the consultation and participation of young people and their families.  These include:

  • The Parents' Share Group where parents can also share experiences, any problems or concerns and celebrate achievements with other parents of children with additional needs.
  • Parents and carers can join the Parent and Carers in Partnership (PACIP to effectively influence services for children within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
  • Young people with SEND can also join the Youth Ambassadors Group to have a say in the development of local services for young people including those with SEND.
